by 19/20 you're done growing out of problems everything will need concentrated effort from now on and thats really hard to deal with for me personally.. like all my worst traits followed me into adulthood so this was great to read
Hey, nice job on Red Scare, but I think maybe you're surrounded by people who are in debt and suicidal and addicted and embarrassed because you're also the kind of person who would write the first paragraph of this other essay:
It's soooo difficult to bite back the urge to say the aforementioned cliché. I will say though, the people who are older but seem to be suffering as much don't really mean age, they mean time. The memory of pain when you're young fades over time.
"What about the new pains!?!?" I hear you! Call it jaded, call it whatever, age means your bleak rolodex of references is big enough that new negative experiences aren't new anymore. Nothing hurts as bad as the first time you hurt. You become resilient, you become certain you can make it through because the evidence bank of times you've lived through it grows.
You are still very young. Yes, that could mean you have years of pain ahead of you. There's a chance of that. What's certain is you have a million chances for things to get better, and you only need the one to work out. I hope it does for you, and that you don't see this as patronizing. I am also young. I'm writing this insanely/borderline narcissisticly long response in earnest four months later because I recognise myself in it and I want more for you, stranger on the internet who's tweets I enjoy sometimes.

Clean the goddamned ants out of your room and sort yourself out, bucko.

I feel this so much. Everyone acts like they know better but they're still just children trying to figure life out.
Bruh are you kidding me, what life advice is that. Everything only gets worse as you're older. Bleak will still be bleak if not bleaker.
You just get used to it
You are a genius
genuinely

It’ll get better with age, it’s true. really really true. Life happens. you don’t.
Don’t worry. You won’t. :)
